What Are Lumineers?

Benefits of Lumineers
These restorations can repair several imperfections in your smile, such as:
- Stains and discoloration
- Cracks and chips
- Worn-down teeth
- Slightly crooked or rotated teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Uneven or misshapen teeth
If you’ve noticed any of these cosmetic flaws in your smile, it’s time to visit your Katy dentist to see whether Lumineers can correct them. Not only is the placement procedure completely pain-free, but after just two visits, you can have a beautiful smile fit for the silver screen.
Some advantages of Lumineers over porcelain veneers include:
- Little or no tooth enamel must be removed
- Less tooth sensitivity
- Quicker procedure
- Can be removed if later on you decide they’re not for you

The Lumineers Process
Altogether, getting Lumineers should take only two appointments. At your initial consultation, one of our dentists will sit down with you and discuss your goals for your smile. Once we determine that Lumineers are the appropriate way to achieve your desired smile, we’ll begin treatment as soon as possible. We’ll start by taking detailed impressions of your teeth, which we’ll send to our dental lab. From there, a skilled dental ceramist will craft your custom Lumineers and deliver them to our dental office.
A few weeks later, when your Lumineers are ready, you’ll return to our dental office. The only preparation we’ll need is to lightly etch your teeth to ensure your restorations will be permanently attached. Once bonded, we’ll check your bite and make any adjustments as needed.

Caring for Your Lumineers
We recommend sticking to a soft diet for the first 24-48 hours after receiving your Lumineers, as your teeth may be slightly sensitive. After that, however, Lumineers should not restrict your diet.
Maintaining your Lumineers is fairly similar to caring for your natural teeth. Brush and floss daily as you normally would, and keep up with regular checkups and cleanings every six months. Even though Lumineers are quite durable, they can still break if you bite down on hard objects like ice or pens. Therefore, we suggest quitting these habits and wearing a nightguard if you grind or clench your teeth while you sleep.
